Heritage Flight Photos of USAF F-22 Raptor and P-38 Lighting
Heritage Flight Photos of USAF F-22 Raptor and P-38 Lighting. These photographs were taken at the Pikes Peak Regional Airshow in Colorado Springs. These Heritage Flight formations serve as a living memorial to the men and women who have served – or are currently serving – in the U.S. Air Force, and the team fly in support of Air Force recruiting and retention efforts. These photos of the USAF F-22 Raptor and the P-28 Lighting were captured on September 21, 2019.
The Air Force Heritage Flight Foundation
The Air Force Heritage Flight Foundation celebrates U.S. air power history by providing 50-70 annual Heritage Flight demonstrations around the world. Heritage Flights are flown at events ranging from open houses and air shows to sporting events, parades and funerals. Since its inception in 1997, the Heritage Flight program has supported hundreds of events and touched millions of people. The team currently consists of nine civilian pilots qualified to fly vintage warbirds in formation with modern Air Force single-ship demonstration teams. In 2020, those civilian airmen are flying historic aircraft alongside the Air Force’s A-10, F-16, F-22 and F-35 pilots.

About the Heritage Flight Photos of USAF F-22 Raptor and P-38 Lighting
The following camera gear was used in the Aviation Photography of the Heritage Flight of USAF F-22 Raptor and P-38 Lighting at the Pikes Peak Regional Airshow in Colorado Springs, Colorado:
- a Nikon D850 with the Nikon MB-D18 Multi Battery Power Pack,
- F-Stop Gear Aloe Green Tilopa 50L Back Pack (with large Pro ICU),
- a Really Right Stuff TVC 34L tripod,
- the Movo GH800 Carbon Fiber Professional Gimbal Tripod Head with Arca-Swiss Quick-Release Plate,
- with a Really Right Stuff BH-50 LR Ballhead,
- and an AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens with a Really Right Stuff Tripod foot.
The in-flight photos were all taken with a Gimbal and tripod set up using the 200-500mm lens. The D850 exposures for the images average between 1/80 and 1/640 of a second at f/7.1 and f/8.0. The native ISO of settings of 64 was used on the Nikon D850 and all images captured as RAW files. We also used Adobe Lightroom Classic CC to process all of these images. Since this was a sunny blue sky day with very few clouds, we used Adobe Photoshop’s new new sky replacement feature to add clouds to these images.
