Photos of Boeing Stearman Biplane at Rocky Mountain Airshow in Broomfield Colorado. Gary Rower of Rower Airshows flies the Stearman shown in the photos on this page. Gary Rower’s Stearman was produced in 1942 as a basic flight trainer for the U.S. Army Air Corps. In 1973 the aircraft was completely rebuilt. During reconstruction the 220 horse power seven-cylinder engine was replaced with a nine-cylinder 450 horse power Pratt and Whitney Wasp Junior engine. The Stearman was also fitted with a fuel and oil system capable of sustained inverted flight, as well as a nine-foot propeller that is nearly supersonic throughout Gary’s air show performance. This photos featured here were taken at the Rocky Mountain Airshow on August 15, 2015.

About the Boeing Stearman Biplane
Stearman Aircraft Corporation was an aircraft manufacturer in Wichita, Kansas. Although the company designed a range of other aircraft, it is most known for producing the Model 75, which is commonly known simply as the “Stearman” or “Boeing Stearman”. In September 1934, anti-trust legislation forced United to separate its airline and aircraft manufacturing operations. At this time, Boeing, which had been part of United Aircraft and Transport Corporation, became a separate business once again, and Stearman was made a subsidiary of it. Stearman officially ceased to operate as a brand then, but about the same time the Stearman plant created its most successful and enduring product, the Model 75 “Kaydet”. The Kaydet would become the primary trainer aircraft for the United States military during World War II.
