Photos of Castle Rock Colorado 4th of July Fireworks: In our gallery located below are photographs of the yearly Fourth of July Fireworks Show in Castle Rock CO as seen over the Santa Fe Quarry Butte. These images were taken on the evening of July 4 of 2021. In the few images taken prior the fireworks show you can see the beautiful sunset over the Rocky Mountains. We also feature a photo of the beautiful homes surrounding the Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course in Castle Rock. The Town of Castle Rock dubs this yearly event as “Castle Rockin’ the Fourth” and is an entire day of celebration starting with a 5K run. The photos on this page were actually taken from atop the Rock in Castle Rock. This provided us with a great view of the show and the entire Colorado Front Range.
Last Fourth of July Fireworks Show in Castle Rock?
Due to previous dry summers and high fire danger, as of 2023 the town plans to replace the fireworks display of years past with an Independence Day drone show. Please enjoy these photos taken on July 4, 2021. Castle Rock will likely not feature a 4th of July fireworks show in the upcoming years. Click here to learn more.

Gear Used to Capture the Independence Day Fireworks over Castle Rock Colorado
The following camera gear was used in the Photography of the Annual Castle Rock Colorado 4th of July Fireworks Show:
- a Nikon Z7II with a Really Right Stuff L-Bracket,
- the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S lens,
- a Gitzo CF6X Mountaineer 2 tripod (GT2530),
- with a Really Right Stuff BH-40 LR Ballhead,
- the camera gear was carried in the F-Stop Gear Aloe Green Tilopa 50L Back Pack (with large Pro ICU).
More Photo Details
All of these images were taken in Manual Exposure mode with the camera on a tripod. We also used the camera’s bulb mode along with a cable release. The exposures on the Nikon Z7II averaged between 5 to 15 seconds at f/10 and ISO 100. The focal length on the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S lens averaged between 82mm and 94mm, the sunset photos were 200mm. All photos were processed using Adobe Lightroom CC Classic and Adobe Photoshop.
